Observation of the Asian Games: Transforming Waste into Treasure and Creating a New Model of Low Carbon Life
Benches made from recycled cola bottles, portable paper bags processed from discarded milk boxes, and handmade "refueling ducks" ornaments made from bamboo shoot shells... As the first "waste free Asian Games" in the history of the Asian Games, there are countless examples of the Hangzhou Asian Games turning waste into treasure.
Cao Jiansong, a member of the Party Group and second level inspector of the Hangzhou Ecological Environment Bureau, said in an interview: "'No waste' is not the absence of solid waste generation, nor is it the complete resource utilization of solid waste. Instead, it is through promoting the formation of green development and lifestyle, strengthening the source reduction and recycling of solid waste, and minimizing the amount of landfill or incineration
Starting from the early stages of the preparation for the Hangzhou Asian Games, Hangzhou has fully implemented the requirements of green hosting, coordinated event preparation and urban development, and integrated the concept of "no waste" into the entire process of preparation, hosting, and post event utilization of the Asian Games. Hangzhou City has successively introduced an action plan and implementation guidelines for improving the "waste free Asian Games", highlighting key areas such as venue construction, event support, hazardous waste supervision, and public participation. It has clarified the "waste free" measures for each stage before, during, and after the competition, and established a "waste free Asian Games" application scenario to achieve full chain supervision of solid waste through big data intelligent analysis.
